| It is 6:04am right now and I am updating this. I am a xanga freak for real yo! haha... Anyway, I got back from Uganda on Tuesday night. It is good to be home, yet it is weird to be home. It was weird when I woke up yesterday morning. It was weird waking up without seeing my teammates, hearing their laughs, noises they make. It felt like I was missing something...
Anyway, this missions trip is probably the best thing that I have ever experienced. It is very difficult to describe my feelings in a few words, or even in a few paragraphs. God used me and my teammates to make a sustainable impact in Arua, Uganda. God totally changed the way I see, the way I think as I ministered the children and leaders there. God showed me the power of the Gospel and what it means to "walk by faith and not by sight". We only can do things up to a certain level. Our strengths are limited. However, God is unlimited. God will take care the rest of the work that are undone. We push the mountain, and God will move the mountain. God definitely moved the mountain in Arua, Uganda.
If you want to hear the full package of my awesome journey, I suggest you talk to me in person because there are so much for me to share. Otherwise, here are my favorite moments in Uganda. ONLY IN UGANDA HOMIE!!!!!
1) We all thought our living condition there will be so bad. We all thought we were going to live in a hut, with no electricity, water, bed, and food, but we ended up staying in a guest house, with electricity, water, bed, and lots of food. Amen!!! ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!
2) It was quite an experience taking a dump in the "long drop", especially taking it in the dark. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!
3) It was also quite an experience being asked to share something 5 minutes before the service began. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!
4) I would never forget how much fun I had taking bucket bath for a month. Seriously though, it wasn't that bad. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!
5) I got malaria the second week I got to Uganda. I have never been that sick in my whole life before. I was so sick to the point I couldn't be able to eat anything for three days. But... God was with me. He gave me strength so that I could be able to take malaria like a man. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!
6) I learned how to say fart and poo in Lugbara; "Zee Tee" means fart and "Zee Zee" means poo. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!
7) It is hilarious when an Ugandan tries to act or speak like an American. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!
8) One of my teammates is a 4th generation Chinese American. Very rare. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!
9) I preached the Gospel to 2,000 children, mixture of Christians and Muslims. Man... I will never forget this one. I literally screamed out my whole sermon for 10 minutes because there was no mic. I wanted to make sure everyone was able to hear my sermon so I screamed like Lil' Jon. "YEEEEEEEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! JESUSSSS DIEDDD FORRR USSSSSS!!!!!!! OOOOOKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!" hahhaha.... Anyway, I kinda lost my voice after I preached, but it was worth it. Some of the children accepted Christ after my sermon so I didn't lose my voice for nothing. It was such a great opportunity to reach out to the Muslims. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10) We played basketball with the Ugandans. We all thought Ugandans can't really ball since basketball isn't their sport. Man... you can't judge the book by its cover. They can ball!!! Although they don't have much fundamental skill, they destroyed us. That was the best tasting humble pie ever!!! ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!
11) It was such a blessing to pray for sick people at the hospital. It was heartbreaking to see children suffering malaria and other diseases at their young age. It really hit me when I went back to the hospital for the second time after I had malaria. I totally felt their pain because I was one of them before. God will definitely bring healings to those children. God will heal them just like the way how he healed me, because GOD IS GOOD AND IT'S HIS NATURE, WOO!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12) Picking your nose in public is culturally acceptable in Uganda. I was having a conversation with a youth worker once. In the middle of the conversation, he started digging his nose. I was trying so hard not to laugh when I saw that. If you want to pick your nose in public without being shameful, come to Uganda, hahaha... ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!
13) I saw a giraffe and elephant from a distance, and I saw a hippo about 10 feet away from me. AMAZING!!!! ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!
14) My teammates and I went water rafting on Nile River two days before we left Uganda. I would say it was the best and craziest water rafting I have ever been to. Most of the rapids there are either class 4 or class 5. It was so intense. I have never prayed that much in my entire life before. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
15) Lastly, it is amazing to see the way how God used my team to impact the Ugandans in Arua, Uganda. Our missions trip doesn't just end here. It just begins. We have already planted seeds in Arua. God will continue to work in their lives, and one day, the seeds will grow and they will become trees with a strong firm foundation. ONLY IN UGANDA!!!

| Hey brothers and sisters,
Praise the Lord!!! They have internet cafe here, and it's soooooo
cheap. It only costs 75 cents for one hour of internet usage. ONLY IN
UGANDA!!!! Anyway, I just want to give y'all an update on what I have
been doing in Uganda. Our mission team have been visiting churches in
a small town called Arua in Uganda. We are trying to encourage the
churches to focus more on their children ministry. Most of the
churches have a large number of children so children ministry is
important in churches in Arua.
We have been planning activities with the churches in order to help
them with their children ministry. We are planning to have training
classes with the children workers. Most of the workers do not have
much biblical knowledge so we are going to strengthen them with the
word of God. Last week, we preached at churches we visited. We shared
our personal experiences with children, our personal testimony and
scriptures from the bible to encourage the churches that children
ministry cannot be ignored. It was quite intense. I think I preached
more than 10 times last week. You might wonder, "Edmund preached???".
Yeah, it is hard to picture that I preach at churches. Preaching is
not my gift, but God gave me the strength and knowledge for me to do
so. God gave me a voice for me to preach to people who are in need of
hearing His word. I got so tired from visiting churches, preaching and
planning activities with churches. Physically I was so tired. I slept
like a pig when I returned home. But spiritually I was rejoicing. I
was so encouraged when I saw how much the churches love their children
and want to help their children to grow with the word of God. Although
they are struggling because they are lacking resources and workers to
minister the children, they are still faithful to God that He will do
great things. Anyway, I need to go. I will try to send another email
before I come back to the states. I hope everyone is doing fine in
United States. Take care and God bless!!!!

| Hey Brothers and Sisters!! I AM IN UGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just arrived an hour ago. Now I am just chilling and resting up my body for my 2nd orientation tomorrow. I am going to stay in Kampala this weekend. Then I am going to go to Arua on Monday. Arua is a small district in Uganda and I will be working at a church in Arua for a month. We are not sure how we will get to Arua from Kampala. We might drive up there, or walk (hopefully that's not the case, haha...). I am very excited to see what God is gonna do in Arua. So yeah... My luggage and myself are in Uganda safely, except my guitar. My guitar hasn't arrived yet. I am not sure if it is still on the way to Uganda, or it got lost on the way here. I still need to find out what's going on. Hopefully it will arrive here soon. The worst case is that I won't have a guitar to play with for Sunday worship at bethel (Sorry my bethel worship team buddies...). If I do lose my guitar, maybe God will provide me a better one in the future, hahaha... Well... We will see about that. Anyway, I need to go back to my cabin and take care of some missions stuff. I will try to keep everyone updated. I won't have any internet connection when I am in Arua. So I guess my next update is going be in August. I will talk to all of you guys later. Have a blessing summer and God bless you all!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edmund | | |
